<image:title>Exploring - What to see and do in Palm Beach and West Palm Beach—and where to stay - I am a scone lover and was looking forward to having them here. (They were the main reason we came.) Sadly, I sent them back to the kitchen because they were raw inside. The waiter reported that the chef said they were supposed to be because they were just baked. (??????) Even if they had not been raw, I would not have been a fan because the outsides (which were fully baked) tasted more like biscuits than scones. The good news: They looked very pretty and the kitchen was kind enough to remove them from the bill. We did not ask them to do that.</image:title>

<image:title>Exploring - What to see and do in Palm Beach and West Palm Beach—and where to stay - I also ordered the lemon ricotta pancakes. <image:title>Exploring - Japan: Best itinerary for a first-time visit to Tokyo and Kyoto and more - If you are staying in western Sumida City, you will be able to walk to the temple and will cross a bridge that takes you over the Sumida River. You may have read other blogs that recommend seeing Sumida Park. Skip it. It is basically a swath of greenery that runs along the river in the way Hudson River Park runs along the Hudson River. Nice, but nothing to go out of your way for. Click here for more details on the temple and a walking tour. After you see the temple, exit through its garden and walk to Ueno Park. <image:title>Exploring - Japan: Best itinerary for a first-time visit to Tokyo and Kyoto and more - There are several entrances to the shrine. If you are taking a taxi there, make sure you are let off at the Harajuku Station. The main entrance to the shrine is directly across a pedestrian plaza from Harajuku Station. If you enter this way, and continue on the forested path you will see the famous saki and wine barrels. It is a beautiful walk. (The self-guided walking tour link, below the photo below, gives you more info on all of this.)</image:title>

<image:title>Exploring - Japan: Best itinerary for a first-time visit to Tokyo and Kyoto and more - The 5-minute walk to Takeshita St is very pleasant. On the left side of the wide street, you’ll see railroad tracks stretching in front of the Meiji Shine forest. The right side is lined with stores like Uniqlo and H&M as well as unique places like Baby Tapi, a bobba store that is an OBSESSION among youngsters in Japan. You can sit on the floor inside and hold them, or you can watch people doing that through the window like we did. To the right of that, is a painting of the store and its iconic gas pumps.</image:title>

<image:title>Exploring - NYC Daytrip: Oyster Bay - We love the charming store at this beautiful, family-run farm. In addition to produce, it sells prepared foods and a large assortment of breads and other baked goods, (Their cherry pie is amazing.) We like to make this our first stop on the way to Oyster Bay. If you put the Waterfront Center into your GPS after stopping at Youngs, you will get to Oyster Bay via some gorgeous backroads lined with Gold Coast mansions. It is a lovely way to start a lovely day.</image:title>

These are luxuries in many Japanese Airbnbs.</image:title>

Plus: Is it worth going to Tokyo Skytree? - Like every Airbnb we stayed in in Japan, the room where you shower was separate from the room with the toilet. Here, the shower room was separated by a partition from the room with the sink where you brush your teeth. The washing machine was in the room with the sink.</image:title>

Plus: Is it worth going to Tokyo Skytree? - Most Japanese apartments (and restaurants!) DO NOT HEAT the restrooms! (But they DO heat the toilet seats!) This apartment actually heated the room with the toilet. We didn’t know how lucky we were to have that until we encountered our next two Airbnbs! It can be mighty cold in a Japanese restroom (where insulation is typically not great) in February.</image:title>

Plus: Is it worth going to Tokyo Skytree? - This is the view to the left of our building entrance. Like many small side streets, there is no sidewalk. Most homes have bicycles parked in front. Tokyo is definitely bicycle-friendly and that is how many residents get around. Surprisingly, almost NO ONE wears a helmet. (In 14 days, I saw only one child wearing one.) Maybe that’s because bikers share the sidewalks and streets with pedestrians and, so, bike quite slowly. But, still, I was surprised.</image:title>

Plus: Is it worth going to Tokyo Skytree? - I wouldn’t go out of your way to see the mall unless you have young children who want to go to the Kirby Café (Kirby is a character in a Nintendo video game) or to the Pokemon store.</image:title>
<image:caption>This is me and my son Eric in front of the Pokemon store. Fifteen years ago this would have been his idea of heaven. (I never realized how much taller he is than me until I saw this picture!)</image:caption>
